Requirements for joining 

To be eligible to join Sigma Kappa, a woman shall have a 2.8 GPA from high school or a 2.5 GPA from college. All exceptions require approval from the ABS and CC.

Membership expectations

Each member shall be held responsible for her financial obligations to the sorority.

Attendance at all meetings, ritual events, and chapter functions are essential to the success of the chapter. Chapter members are expected to arrive on time.

Must obtain 15 service hours per semester.

Fall 2019 Sigma Kappa New Member Fees

$97- New Member Fee (paid once)
$180- initiation fee (paid once)
$58 or more- Badge fee (paid once)
$30- New member dues (paid twice)
$75- housing fee (paid once)
$20- Panhellenic dues (paid once a semester)

$100- National Collegiate dues (paid annually)

Scholarship expectations 
 

A member must maintain a 2.5 cumulative grade point average (based on a 4.0 scale).

 

Hazing & Alcohol policies 

Hazing 

Hazing is defined as any action, activity, or attitude directed toward a new member, member or any
individual because of his/her relationship with Sigma Kappa or any other campus organization with or
without their consent which ridicules, humiliates, embarrasses, confuses, frustrates or causes undue stress
as well as any action that may cause physical or mental discomfort and has the potential to cause bodily
injury or psychological damage. This includes the harassment, intimidation, degrading or lack of respect
from one member(s) to other member(s) and may include verbal, written, implied, physical or through email,
text, and/or any type of social media. The following list includes examples of hazing by category and is not
intended to be all inclusive.
a. Subtle hazing: any action, activity, or attitude which ridicules, humiliates, or embarrasses.
b. Harassment hazing: any action, activity, or attitude which confuses, frustrates, or causes undue
stress as well as any action that may cause physical or mental discomfort.
c. Dangerous hazing: any action, activity, or attitude which has the potential to cause bodily injury or
psychological damage.

Alcohol 

Member’s personal social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and Snapchat Stories, GroupMe,​ or any other social media app) may not include content that is damaging to the reputation of Sigma Kappa Sorority, inconsistent with the mission of the Sorority, or likely to subject the Sorority to liability. Impermissible posts include but are not limited to the following:

- Underage consumption of alcohol or illegal substances

- Consumption of alcohol while wearing the letters or name of Sigma Kappa.

Wearing Letters

- Sigma Kappa letters, apparel, and accessories may not be worn in the presence of alcohol or in a bar.

- If a member is found to be consuming alcohol in the letters of the sorority they will automatically be called to a Standards Council meeting and may be suspended or expelled from the chapter.

Sigma Kappa letters, member badges, and new member pins may not be worn while consuming
any alcoholic beverages or partaking in illegal substances.

Per the Sigma Kappa Ritual Book guidelines, there shall be no consuming alcohol on the weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) of an important ritual event.
